"BIRDS" - Hélène Picard

18 October 201207 November 2012

This new work is integrated into Superfragilistic, a series begun during a residence at the ISCP in New York in October of 2011.

These works correspond to a personal stage where the artist, leaving home and her workshop in a nomadic situation in search of new territory.

This experience has led to Hélène Picard to reflect on the fragility and the fleeting nature of creation as the person. With birds the artist wanted to work voluntarily on the principle of the work unique and made by hand, thus highlighting its heinous and risky dimension. He has created a series of Monotypes made with paper masks and printed with spoon that evoke birds, wings, feathers and branches. Some are on the verge of disappearing, others exhibit an intense chromaticism of gala and all float in blanks, weightless, as in suspension. The birds are tiny but can fly to the second; they are fragile and powerful at the same time. It is this contrast that Hélène Picard invites us to experiment with his volatile world, leading us to feel on the skin of a bird.
