Eduardo Chillida (1924 - 2002)

This work, composed by prints, poems and philosophical quotes, shows this Basque artist dealing with some of his most significant key themes: time, space, gravity, music, liberty, tolerance, light and sea.
Published in 2000 by Edouard Weiss (France) on the occasion of the artist’s 76th birthday, the book contains nine chapters – each beginning with a print, accompanied with a phrase by a well known writer, and reflections by Chillida himself-.The book includes quotes from twenty one artists, philosophers and artists from different periods – Octavio Paz, Georges Braque, Paul Eluard, Einstein, Goethe – whose thoughts are reflected by Chillida himself.
In this book all three significant printing techniques used by the artist are shown. It is composed by five etchings, three woodcuts, two screenprints, twenty-two sketches and drawings together with thirty-eight text pages, twenty-seven are recto-verso. His son Ignacio Chillida was responsible for the impression at the Hatz workshop in San Sebastian. Some sketches about the Peine de los Vientos and the Tolerancia en Sevilla are included. All prints and some of the poems are framed.
