The idea that the extreme internalization of certain convictions leads to slavery and constriction, is subtly expressed in the series Defect, the work with which Inma Herrera's series, Cropped, begins. In the piece, a faceless woman holds the strings of a puppet that turns out to be herself. The wrist is hypothetically in a natural position, since its manipulator does not pull on any of the stitches; however, the sensation of her is of being in a forced, tense position, far from a sincere state. This person's false beliefs have permeated her way of thinking, incapacitating her to respond to her true needs and turning her into a puppet of herself. This distance between the reality of the original self and its representation is externalized in the body, which, uncomfortable with the decisions made by the mind, reveals itself in its own way by contracting or deforming.
