Ulysses Belz (Mainz / Germany, 1958) has specialized in the continuation of the ancient medieval technique of burin engraving until the present. The exhibition "Buriles", displays five recent and significant works by the German artist who lives and works in Mallorca. The task that Ulysses Belz is passionate about is the conversion of a graphic tool invented around 1420 into a living contemporary medium of expression. Rejecting historicism, Ulysses gives a new sense to the preciseness of the burin line. Through large scale engravings we find a sort of digital sense of aesthetics, as well as a search for poetics influenced from science and technology.
